Visit to Croatia
October 31, 2010 by Nevia.
After Columbia County Fair, the last State Fair that we participated in, we took some time off to visit Croatia, the country I was born in and in which I spent my first 18 years. It was already September, most of the tourists were gone and the beautiful blue water was getting colder but the temperature during the day was still hot. We enjoyed a few days on the beach. Most of the beaches along the coast are composed of small white egg shaped stones in various sizes, quite different from the sandy beaches we are accustomed to here. After a very busy season for us, it was good for the body and soul to take a break. The Croatian coast is absolutely beautiful, and if you have already visited the southern coast, around Dubrovnik, it’s time to explore the northern beaches and islands. Next time you decide to visit Croatia, a visit to the peninsula of Istra is a must! Just a quick history; Labin, my hometown was built by the Romans in the 3rd century BC. Most of the towns were built on the hilltops for protection from invaders. Those old towns, with old churches and narrow streets still stand inhabited by people proud of their heritage.
I love going back visit relatives and to enjoy the delicious food. You can taste the difference of the natural food, garden grown fresh vegetables, fruit galore and daily fresh fish. It’s hard to describe the beauty of this country. Because I grew up on the coast this is my favorite area, but believe me, Croatia has a lot to offer. The inland has many historic and picturesque sites as does the coast.
I am sharing some pictures with you, good food, homemade wine, grappa (moonshine which is now mixed with honey for the younger generation) and friends and family are never too far away.

Don’t forget to visit us at our last show this year in Stormville on November 6 and 7 at site No. RW5. LAST CHANCE TO STOCK UP ON DEER DEFEAT REPELLENT FOR THE WINTER MONTHS.
